    Songwriter Showcase with Brett Cassidy, Anna Lewis, Devin Foster & Pluvelle

    Songwriter Showcase brings a free night of live music to Red Bird Brewing on Thursday, October 29th at 7pm, and it's one of those evenings you'll be telling friends about later. Brett Cassidy, Anna Lewis, Devin Foster, and Pluvelle will each play a short solo set, then team up for a Nashville-style songwriters round where the stories behind the songs take centre stage. Expect everything from banjo-driven folk and country pop to moody, finger-picked alt ballads. Click in for full details.

    Some nights you plan for, this one just requires showing up. On Thursday, November 5th, Red Bird welcomes Pastel Blank, the Victoria-via-Montréal project fronted by Angus Watt, for a free night of dance-punk energy wrapped in pop hooks and post-punk edges. Expect thick percussion, woozy synths, and a groove that refuses to sit still, all captured live the way it was meant to be heard. No entry fee, no pretense, just great music and maybe a little bit of boogie. This is dance music for people who don't know how to dance, and honestly, that's most of us. Come see it for yourself.

On November 12th from 7 to 9 pm, Chaii takes the Red Bird stage with her groovy bossa jazz rhythms, and Okanagan folk artist Kailee Duggan opens the evening with soulful songs that have been compared to Norah Jones. It’s a night of easy listening, fresh pints, and wood fired oven pizza. No tickets, just great music and even better conversation.

With six albums, international tours and stages shared with Bryan Adams, Ben Harper and Kings of Leon behind him, Fitzgerald is the kind of artist who makes a room feel like a living room.     Two Western Canadian indie bands, one free Thursday night. Kamloops duo The Houses (Where We Grew Up) open with hazy shoegaze, noisy guitars, and melodies that sneak up on you. Then Calgary’s Flowshine takes the stage with big harmonies and sing-along hooks built over more than a decade on the road. It’s a lineup with range, and it’s free.     Award-winning indie-folk artist Daniel James McFadyen brings his road-worn storytelling and high-energy live show to Red Bird Brewing on December 3. Following sold-out shows across Canada and the release of Back To The Country, he's quickly becoming one of the country's compelling contemporary folk voices. Tofino based folk singer-songwriter Kieran Campbell opens the night. Tickets start at $20.
