From His CamperVan to Our Stage
There’s a certain kind of magic that happens only a handful of times a year where the room goes quiet, the lights dim low, and a single voice and guitar fill every corner of the space. That’s what you can expect on September 12th, when Australian singer-songwriter Kim Churchill, a one-man-band who’s sold 30,000 tickets across four continents, takes the stage at Red Bird for one night only. Expect soul-baring folk, blues-soaked grit, and the kind of raw, intimate live performance that lingers in your soul. This is what live music should feel like: unplugged, unhurried, and genuinely alive.
Kim Churchill’s story starts on the east coast of Australia in the small surf town of Merimbula, where he began busking at farmers markets at just 15 years old. He set off in a camper van straight out of high school, and fifteen years, three continents, and multiple camper vans later, he’s still chasing that same dream, just with a bigger audience. Along the way he won the Byron Bluesfest Busking Competition, was named Folk Artist of the Year at the National Folk Festival, toured the world with English folk-punk legend Billy Bragg (including a stop at Glastonbury), and signed major label deals with Warner, Atlantic Records UK, and Universal Europe.
His breakout single “Window to the Sky” became the most-played song on triple J, cracked the Hottest 100, and went Platinum in Australia and Gold in both Canada and Germany, racking up over 60 million streams along the way. These days Kim manages his own career and writes music from a self-built sunrise ritual: waking before dawn, lighting candles, and letting the songs come. That ritual shaped his last two acclaimed albums, Dawn Sounds and It’s Lovely to Have You Here, which have carried him across Europe three times, Canada three times, Australia three times, and the US supporting his friend Ziggy Alberts with over 30,000 tickets sold and counting. With a full headline tour of Canada, European and North American festival dates, and his first-ever New Zealand headline run all on the books for 2026, this Kelowna show is a rare chance to catch him in an intimate brewery setting before the rooms get a whole lot bigger.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of “Window to the Sky” or you’re discovering Kim Churchill for the first time, this is the kind of show where you’ll feel connected, not just to the artist, but to your community.
