nightshades is a collaborative indie rock band formed by four of Canada’s most compelling musical voices — Andrew Judah, Common Fires, DL Ranney, and N. Sherman. With a Beatles-esque approach to collaboration, the group blends diverse styles into a cohesive and richly melodic live show. Each member swaps instruments and vocals on stage, creating a vibrant, ever-shifting performance anchored in hook-heavy songwriting and rhythmic flair. Since their formation in 2023, nightshades has released two full-length albums (Inside Joke, Reducer) and three EPs, carving out a reputation for musical innovation and engaging, high-energy shows.

Oily James

Oily James, the solo project of Ollie James Sandberg, opens the night with a genre-fluid set that sits somewhere between dreamy psychedelia and quirky alt-pop. A founding member of psych-fusion outfit Neighbourly, Sandberg’s solo work explores identity and impermanence with playful curiosity. His recent ambient album 246 Waves draws inspiration from cold water immersion and the Pacific Ocean, blending emotional depth with sonic experimentation. Fans of Connan Mockasin and Mac DeMarco’s more eccentric work will find a kindred spirit in Oily James.
