Two BC indie rock powerhouses take over the Red Bird stage

Live music in Kelowna continues Saturday night, May 2nd as nightshades headline a special ticketed show at Red Bird Brewing with support from Kamloops rock band Mother Sun. Music runs from 8pm to 11pm for a full evening of adventurous indie rock and psychedelic sounds at one of Kelowna’s favourite live music venues.


nightshades is a Kelowna-based collaborative indie rock band featuring four accomplished Canadian songwriters: Andrew Judah, Common Fires, DL Ranney, and N. Sherman. Known for their Beatles-inspired approach to songwriting and arrangement, the band blends diverse musical ideas into vibrant, melodic songs built around irresistible hooks and rhythmic energy.


With all four members sharing vocal and instrumental duties, nightshades delivers a live performance that is both visually and sonically dynamic. Each show feels like a creative exchange unfolding in real time as the band’s distinct songwriting styles and musical personalities come together on stage. Since forming in early 2023, nightshades has been remarkably prolific, releasing three full-length albums including Inside Joke and Open Secret in 2025, along with 2024’s Reducer. The band has also released three EPs that showcase their genre-defying indie rock sound.

Mother Sun

Opening the night is Mother Sun, a Kamloops-based band known for creating melodic and exploratory rock and roll shaped by dreamy psychedelic textures, folk rock songwriting, power pop melodies, and touches of jazz. The group released their fourth full-length album Meadow 6 in October 2024 through Earth Libraries and Divine Bovine Records.


Mother Sun has been a staple of the western Canadian indie scene for years, touring consistently since 2018 and performing at festivals such as Khatsalano, Between the Peaks, Starbelly Jam, and Treefort Fest in Boise, Idaho. The band has also had multiple songs featured in the television series Shameless and has shared stages with artists including The Sadies, Dead Ghosts, Vinyl Williams, Ghostwoman, and The Breathing Effect.


Their live performances combine rich melodies, inventive arrangements, and a deep love of classic rock, surf music, and psychedelic pop influences. Performing as a trio featuring Jared Doherty on vocals and guitar, Alex Ward on keys, bass, and synth, and Jared Rinaldi on drums and percussion, Mother Sun brings a warm and expansive sound to the stage.


This special ticketed show is part of Red Bird Brewing’s ongoing live music series featuring touring and regional artists in an intimate concert setting in Kelowna’s North End.
