Powerful Indigenous storytelling meets genre-bending live performance
Live music in Kelowna continues Saturday, April 11 as Francis Baptiste takes the stage at Red Bird Brewing for a special ticketed performance from 8pm to 11pm. Known for his powerful songwriting and deeply personal storytelling, Baptiste brings an unforgettable night of roots, rock, and Indigenous narrative to one of Kelowna’s favourite live music venues.
Francis Baptiste is an Indigenous songwriter whose music explores cultural reclamation, addiction, healing, and fatherhood. His debut album Sneqsilx (Family) introduced listeners to songs written partly in Nsyilxcən, the endangered language of the Syilx people, reflecting his commitment to reconnecting with and preserving his heritage. He followed this with Senklip, the Trickster, an album that dives into oral traditions, intergenerational trauma, and the challenges of recovery while navigating life as a father.
In 2025, Baptiste released Lived Experience in East Vancouver, a raw and honest album centred on his personal battle with addiction. His work has been described as “visceral and full-on rocking” by The Vancouver Sun and “lushly hypnotic” by CBC. Through powerful vocals and emotionally driven songwriting, Baptiste creates performances that are both intimate and electrifying.
