By popular demand, the James Hay Blues Band is back at Red Bird Brewing for another night of free live music. Their last performance had the room buzzing — packed tables, nodding heads, and a crowd fully locked into the groove — and we’re bringing them back to do it all over again.
Fronted by Western Canadian electric blues guitarist and singer-songwriter James Hay, the band delivers a hard-driving, swampy blend of delta slide blues, jump, jive, swing, and boogie. With over 30 years of experience as a full-time sideman, James brings deep roots, sharp instincts, and serious feel to every note.
Joined by “Boogie Man” Blue Rooney on bass and PJ “Like the Pyjamas” Hermann on drums, the James Hay Blues Band is a tight, high-energy trio based right here in Kelowna. Their sets mix original blues material with timeless classics and modern favourites, drawing inspiration from legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, Freddie King, Elmore James, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, and more — all delivered with grit, groove, and a whole lot of soul.
